If you are deciding whether to order, the useful questions are what evidence you can inspect, what the service promises, and what happens if something goes wrong.

What you can verify before you order

Build-a-Dress was started in 2025 in Sammamish, Washington. Our service overview explains the design, quote, measurement, and production stages.

You can also inspect a generated concept alongside a finished dress and its maker. That example includes finished-dress photos and videos. Use it to compare what is visible in a concept with the physical result. One example is not evidence of every order's fit, delivery time, or customer satisfaction.

When looking at any dress site, distinguish generated concepts from photos of completed garments. A gallery of attractive concepts can help with ideas, but it cannot by itself establish sewing quality or fit.

What AI does and what a maker does

The design assistant helps translate your description or inspiration photos into a visual concept. Create a front preview, choose Get free quote, and sign in or create an account when prompted to receive an automated estimate.

That quote is an automated estimate based on the design information and visible complexity. It is not a bid from a seamstress. The tool does not automatically match you to a maker.

After checkout, the Build-a-Dress team coordinates production with a production partner. Human makers construct the garment using the agreed direction and your submitted measurements. The generated image is a reference, not a finished sewing pattern or a guarantee of an exact visual match in fabric.

What to know about price and timing

Custom dresses start at $650 USD. Prom, formal, and modest designs commonly fall around $650–$1,500+; wedding and quinceañera gowns commonly need a $1,250–$3,250+ budget. These are planning ranges, not offers for a particular design. Review your individual quote and order details before payment.

A typical planning estimate is 2–3 months from confirmation to delivery. Allow additional time for design decisions and an optional local fitting, and confirm the event deadline before committing. The 2026 research report does not publish measured delivery times because completed-order data is too limited to support a reliable statistic.

What made-to-measure means for fit

Production uses the measurements you submit. Measure carefully, review the entries, and record the shoes and undergarments you plan to wear. A made-to-measure order can still need finishing adjustments; it is not a promise of a perfect fit without alterations.

Ask about any requirement that matters to you, such as opaque sleeves, bust support, neckline depth, or sitting comfort. Do not assume those details from a generated image alone.

Read the policies before payment

Our Refund Policy explains defect claims, timing, evidence, and returns. It distinguishes manufacturing defects or material differences from confirmed order details from change-of-mind and fit-preference returns. Custom orders are not covered by a general try-on-and-return policy.
