A small company making custom dresses more personal
Build-a-Dress began in 2025 in Sammamish, Washington, with a simple question: how could we make ordering a custom dress easier for the person who will wear it?
We started with a laptop and a few dressmaking partners. Our goal was to help customers turn an idea into a clear design, understand what it would cost, and get help managing production.

How Much Does a Custom Dress Cost?
Custom dresses start at $650. Use these ranges to plan your budget, then review the estimate for your own design before ordering.
Prom, formal & modest dresses
$650-$1,500+
Fabric, skirt volume, lining, bodice support, and beading affect the price. Simpler construction can help you keep the design within your budget.
Wedding & quinceanera gowns
$1,250-$3,250+
Full skirts, structured bodices, long trains, lace, and handwork can increase the materials and production time. Intricate gowns can exceed this planning range.
Review the total
Confirm the fabric, lining, construction, embellishments, measurements, delivery date, and any shipping, taxes, or fees in your order. AI generation credits are separate from dress production. Keep a separate budget for accessories and any local alterations.
Plan the delivery
The process typically takes 2-3 months from order confirmation to delivery: 1-2 weeks for design finalization and measurements, about 5-7 weeks for production and quality review, and 1-2 weeks for shipping. Confirm the current delivery estimate before paying and leave extra time for a local finishing alteration. Complex handwork and peak-season demand can extend the timeline.
We currently deliver to addresses in the United States. Allow 1-2 weeks for shipping within the overall 2-3 month order timeline. Review the delivery estimate and shipping charges for your order before paying.
Allow for a fitting
Use our measurement guide and provide the measurements requested for your design. Your dress is made to those approved measurements; a local finishing alteration may still be needed for personal preference or body changes. Leave time and budget for that fitting. Contact support if the delivered dress materially differs from the approved order, under our refund policy.

Our 2026 report examined 5,397 designs, including 383 with manufacturer quotes. The median quote across those 383 designs was $1,130. The self-selected sample covers August 2025–July 2026; historical manufacturer quotes are not current guaranteed prices or final amounts paid.
